Going apple picking this weekend?  This homemade applesauce from The Kitchn will taste so much better than anything in the store.


Ingredients

  • 3 lbs. large apples (about 6)

  • 1/2 cup water

  • 2  cinnamon sticks

  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


Directions

Peel and chop the apples in quarters, and cut out the cores. Coarsely chop the apples into 1- to 2-inch pieces, depending on how chunky you like your applesauce.

Place the apples in the slower cooker and add the water, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt  Stir to combine.

Cover and cook on the HIGH setting for 4 hours, stirring twice during cooking.

Optional - If you prefer smooth applesauce, remove the cinnamon sticks and use an immersion blender to puree.

Let the applesauce cool to room temperature. The applesauce can be stored in an airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 5 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
